Barbara J Tyler, MS Education, Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist.  Instructing since 1996.

I started studying Russian ballet in Brooklyn, NY, having fallen in love with theatrical dance while watching the Radio City Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall. For me those performances combined with the pure joy of rolling down Brooklyn’s Prospect Park hills and climbing monkey bars, as a child laid the foundation for my love of movement, pure and stylized. The combination of the richness of the city dance culture and a passion for movement compelled me to work toward a Performing Arts Undergraduate Dance Degree at the State University of New York, SUNY, Brockport, subsequently graduating Cum Laude.

My early ballet dance training in NYC was with Madame Yousekvich and Nanette Charisse at the Yousekvich School of ballet, The Eglevsky School of Ballet, Finis Yhung, David Howard, and Raoul Gelabert in corrective exercise. While in Carbondale, I trained and performed with Toni Intravia.

My teaching philosophy involves encouraging the student’s self discovery; finding the fullness of his/her possible movement and the joy in the expression of it while delivering sound biomechanics, alignment and technique.

In 1993 I graduated From SIU with an MS in Education and a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation. To date I hold a national certification with NCTRC, Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. In addition I am an AFAA, Certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor; PhysicalMind, Pilates, Mat and Standing Certified Instructor; a Level I Yamuna Body Rolling Instructor and a Teacher of Yoga, 200 hours.

Looking forward to meeting you!
